Beach party and picture day
September 10, 2003 @ 6:41 p.m.

Tuesday (yeeeeesterday) was awesome. Well, the school day took forever, but the actual beachy part was fun. I know that most people who live within access to an ocean and a real beach would laugh, but it was fun. We had a lake with cold water and sand. What else do you need? Katie made little LMS flags in advance, with the plan that the school would like people who support LMS for the sand castle contest. Upon our arrival, we found ourselves a spot on the beach and set to making a castle. It started out pretty plain. Two lumps of sand and an arch of grey, dirt-sand connecting them, along with a mote. When Sam L found some snails at the bottom of the lake (she's crazy to have been swimming... man... I was cold without being wet...) we stuck the [still living] snails onto the arch. It was really cool. Then we made a bridge across the mote. And put more snails on the castle. They stayed put for the most part. Since they were still alive (we occasionally put some water on them... heh heh...) they fell down a lot, but held still for the picture Rice took. I kept my eye(s) open for Charles, but he either didn't come to the end of the beach or leave the picnic tables up in the forest. I told Katie I wanted to see him without a shirt. Hehehe. He looks amazingly cute in sunglasses. They judged our castle (which we called 'Gary's Home Away From Home'... any person who's ever watched Spongebob knows what we named it for... meow...). Then we went to eat, keeping a guard (me) by our castle so that certain people (*coughdestructiveidiotscough*) wouldn't smoosh it and bury the snails. Katie took up guard position when she was done eating and I grabbed a hotdog and brought it down to the castle again to eat. And so on and so forth. We [well, Katie and Ashley] buried Sam ("Don't you dare put snails in inappropriate places!") and I snuck up a few times to try and learn in advance who won the castle contest. Talked to Felix, Stover, and Smith some (wow... all but one of my 7th grade teachers were there...), and learned that Stover held Felix back in 7th grade... hahaha... and Mrs Smith was in his 8th grade class the first year he taught... that makes them all sound old 'n rusty.... Didn't find out who won the sand castle contest until the very end, and I have to file a complaint that half of the winners didn't even make castles... lol.... Got home, shook out my soaked and sandy clothing, and plopped down on my bed for a night of TV. Or something like that. Today was good too... I don't recall ever looking forward to Picture Day. I think my shirt gave me confidence. It's my pretty red one. As Ara says, I'm going to send her one, as well as my Patriot interview, hehe. Hey, if you live in or around Harrisburg, grab a copy of the September 16th Patriot, if you can... I'll be in Teen Spotlight. :D Anyway, I think that's about it. ;) -Adrienne
