Cow pus? Ew.
August 18, 2005 @ 5:29 p.m.

So I was reading today (lots and lots of reading today O_O;;) and ended up reading about cruelty to animals and diseases related to dairy products, eggs, and meat, blah blah. Here's some things I discovered in my searchings: -Cow's milk typically has 1-7 drops of pus [which contains bacteria, no duh] per cup. (Eeeeew.) -No species of animal naturally drinks another species' milk. So drinking cow's milk, which is suited for baby cows (who quickly gain weight and can weigh over 1000 pounds before turning two), obviously isn't natural. -Milk contributes to acne. (Hey, it's something the typical teenage girl would note.) -Babies fed cow's milk is one of the factors supposedly leading to autism. (This strikes me because Quinn has autism.) -Fish's skin on average has the pollutants of the water around them concentrated nine times. -It supposedly takes 2500 gallons of water to produce ONE pound of meat. (O_O) So, after thinking about it some, I decided that there's no way in hell I can give up my carnivorous tendencies all at once, so the place to start would be trying to give up milk (I'll figure out the logistics of giving up cheese later, lol) for soymilk. When I told this to my parents, they just scoffed at me. >_< So in the end that just inspires me further, just so I can prove them wrong. I wonder if soymilk is any more expensive than regular milk? Hmm. Actually, if it's cheaper, that'd probably make my dad jump at the idea.... But anyway, the things I'm reading say soymilk can be substituted for milk anywhere. Dad says it tastes nothing like milk. But the thought of cow pus kind of grosses me out. I don't know, we'll see. -Adrienne
